Goals and
Intentions
Our main goal with the data we collect is to assess any correlation between velocity (rotational and/or linear) recorded by the Prevent Biometrics mouthguard, and deficit in saccadic eye movement, determined by the King-Devick post-injury concussion tool.
We are also working with representatives from the King-Devick Sideline tool in association with the Mayo Clinic, and the Medical University of South Carolina as we piece together the relevance of our findings and share them with medical professionals.
Once we have recorded a full winter and summer season’s worth of data, we will work with King-Devick, the Mayo Clinic, and MUSC to determine how this research can help in the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries like complex traumatic brain injuries and concussions.
Together, Watershed Jackson and you as a participant, are doing what we can to keep athletes safe from mild sports concussions and more involved traumatic brain injuries.
By gathering this data our hope is to focus on an improved concussion screening process, injury prevention, and an advanced recovery protocol.
Thanks to the technology from Prevent Biometrics, we have the ability to test individual impacts such as mild sports concussions and more involved traumatic brain injuries via a sleek digital mouthguard.
For the past 2 winters, we have worked on recording head impact with athletes skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling. We are now ready to focus on summer sports such as mountain biking, moto sports, and extreme water sports like kayaking.
